Culturally Cinematic | Video Essay

A video essay snippet of my studies of "Can Animation be Cinema?”. Born from a childhood in Mexico watching animation, I’m researching cinematic experiences in the medium founded upon Bazin's 1967 “What is Cinema?”, C.S. Peirce's Semiotics, and the history of the religious icon to depict the divine. By looking at film as a language, animation can then be understood as a linguistic branch, an icon capable of connecting our shared humanity across richly diverse understandings of love, culture, and dreams.
